Fallen Earth: Post-Apocalypse MMO
Q: Do you like Post-Apocalypse as a setting?
A: Hell yes, I started playing the Fallout Series back when it was called Wasteland, and c'mon who doesn't like Mad Max?
Q: How good does this look?
A: Pretty good.
Q: Couldn't it completely suck?
A: Yes, but I'm an optimist.

EverQuest turns 10
Yes, indeed. EQ is 10 years old. I'd like those of you that either have played it in the past or are currently playing it to leave a memory or something EQ related in the comments section. Here's a few of mine:
In everQUEST (emphasis on the quest), quests were gotten and completed by actually talking to the NPC's by way of typing words on the keyboard. Usually, quests weren't readily visible, you had to 'Hail' (shortcut key was H) an NPC for them to tell you something, then one or more words would be in [brackets], and then you would type that word or series of words and get another response. You really had to work for them. For Example:
After potentially getting the item or whatever you needed to complete the quest, you would then give it back to the quest giver and then pray that the quest would be considered completed. For a game with 'Quest' in the title, it was horrible stuff.
Other things:
- First character created: Gnome Enchanter
- Last character played: either Gnome Warrior or Dark Elf Enchanter, i can't remember
- My first Mule was named Htims (Smith spelled backwards)
- on some mobs you could see what they were carrying for loot because the model showed it in their hand
- a Cracked Staff was worth something like 8gp
- encumbrance mattered, & you had to be at a bank to exchange money (thousands of copper)
- not being able to see because it got dark at night was a huge problem, and if you were a human, you really needed to get a light source quick.
- Greater Lightstones, The Toll Booth, Kodiaks, and this guy:

Jarah Reskan judges you amiably -- what would you like your tombstone to say?
You say, 'Hail, Jarah Reskan'
Jarah Reskan says 'Greetings, child. Welcome to Gemchopper Hall. I trust that you are a [warrior], or perhaps you are lost..?'
You say, 'I am a warrior.'
Jarah Reskan says 'That is good news! We gnomes are not known for our love of battle so it is always good to bring new blood into our ranks. We shall prove our worth as warriors to all other races. For now, there is much to do in Ak'Anon. There are [rogue clockworks] and the [cargo clockwork].'
You say, 'Cargo clockwork?'
Jarah Reskan says 'The cargo clockwork is located near the entrance to Ak'Anon in the Steamfont Mountains. It runs a delivery to the windmills every five days at eight in the morning. There have been attacks by a group of highwaymen. They are quite a formidable group. I have offered a reward for their heads. Be very careful if you plan on escorting the cargo clockwork. This trio of bandits is very strong.'

Ron Silver
Ron Silver (imdb, wikipedia) died yesterday. Here's my favorite role of his. He plays himself in it and is described as A “very dangerous man, a gifted actor, and a cold blooded killer”. I did not know the man but I'm pretty sure his depiction of himself was spot on. This is just the trailer, if you want to see the unaired pilot (I recommend it) you can view it in 3 parts here, here2, & here3.
If you just want a cool ass Ron Silver quote goto 3:58 into the 2nd video. So worth it.

TED Talk: Sixth Sense
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is like a genius convention. Every year I see new videos from this conference that amaze me. One of the best things about it is the fact that it's not a closed star chamber affair. They share videos of the conference talks and presentations allowing us all to experience them. There are several that I've seen from this year that have been post worthy, and you should check out more if you like this sort of thing, but this one definitely stood out among the crowd (in my opinion).
Obligitory Watchmen Post
Seems like it's all the rage to post something about the new Watchmen movie, so here's mine. I haven't seen it. It could be cool, it could suck, I just don't know. Here's a cool Watchmen pic.

Crazy Web Cam Recognition Thingy
I remember seeing something like this that was a card game for the PS3 that would use the EyeToy gadget to recognize the card on the table and then spawn the appropriate monster to do battle, but this is still really cool, and you can do it too.
I'm posting the video of it, but you can go to the actual website Here and check it out for yourself. Apparently, if you blow on it (and the webcam mic picks up the sound of your 'blowing') the windmills move.

Team Fortress 2 Updates Scout
Valve put up some new information that will be released over the next few days regarding the new Scout Patch for their 1stps Team Fortress 2. The first item is a baseball bat that allows you to somehow hit baseballs at opposing players, which stun the player on contact, even to uber-charged or invulnerable enemies. Carrying this bat does have a down side though, no double jumping. Interesting twist, can't wait to see more. Website Here.

Just Watch It: Lost in a Moment
This is the most interesting video I've seen in quite some time. For some reason it reminds me of a cut scene from a video game, like a lost part of Anachronox? There is definitely something there though.

Fanboys "Chase Scene"
This movie looks like it could really be quite funny. Just from this clip you can tell they are gonna go for obscure geek references and jokes, as well as a blatant, in your face, almost Mel Brooks-esque type of humor. Hopefully, it wont suck.

Machinarium
If you haven't played Samorost 1 or Samorost 2 by Jakub Dvorsky & Amanita Design, get to it, cuz they are cool. Very stylized and fun and just long enough. If you want more, there are a few others (like the one done for The Polyphonic Spree) you can access at the web site, which in and of itself is a little game.
Well, they are working on another longer more intricate game called Machinarium and they released another preview video for us to stare longingly at. There are also backgrounds and concept art at the Machinarium web site.
I just hope they don't give too much away...

It is pitch black.
You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
>what is a grue?
The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered bu its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.
